Lanzarote - Costa Teguise September 2018

Once again we were off to Gatwick for our Norwegian flight to Lanzarote and again we were very speedily checked in. There was hardly any hold up at security and we headed for Weatherspoons. Slight difficulty in getting a table, then suddenly a few tables became free. The "Flying Horse" was ideal for an all-day breakfast / brunch and a couple of drinks ordered from our table using the Weatherspoon app and beating the queue! We had a while to wait until our departure gate was notified but then we were fairly quickly embarked to our reserved seats on a newish 737, departing on time.

The flight, in general, could not be faulted and we were pleasantly surprised at how soon we were arriving at Arrecife where disembarkation and transit through arrivals was relatively painless. It was, once again, only when we fell into the hands of TUI staff, waiting for our pre-booked taxi transfer that we were delayed Hmm! Note to self and others - take a non TUI taxi from this airport!

There was a queue for check-in at our resort, not assisted by Spanish people believing that they should take priority at check-in - Hmm again!

2018 Sept Lanzarote - Los Zocos Lounge

Our apartment was on the 3rd floor - 5 rooms away from the lift, in a quiet location with a good view, over the quiet pool. It had been recently redecorated and the bathroom had a good shower and new fittings throughout. The lounge and kitchen were bright and airy, opening onto a shaded balcony. The kitchen fittings - fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, etc., were almost brand new. Other than the kettle and fridge, they would stay that way! For a change we had booked an All Inclusive holiday, in Prestige accommodation and with Premier service. We were to have reason to be very pleased with this upgrade choice!

Our bedroom was bright and recently redecorated with sufficient drawer, hanging and shelf space and with a reasonable sized safe. We were very pleased with the standard of accommodation.

A cold buffet had been reserved for late arrivals, which was greatly appreciated - although the quality of wine available was pretty poor. Nevertheless the Cava and beer was drinkable, so all was not lost.

We followed, the buffet meal, with a few beers, cavas and cocktails before turning in. I'm not sure whether it was the early start, the travelling, the alcohol or the bed - but, unusually, we both slept extremely well that night.

2018 Sept Lanzarote - Los Zocos Quiet Pool

The following morning, after an indifferent breakfast, we decided remain in the quiet pool area for the day. The resort had 2 pool areas - the first was for the activity / animation / games’y people and their children and the other, near the premium area with its reserved sun loungers and premium lounge was, nominally, a quiet area. One pool, immediately adjacent to the Premium section was a kid's pool - who on earth could ever have expected kids to be quiet? Needless to say - they weren't.

The resort was not full and we never had a problem obtaining a lounger - the problem was with lack of shade. Nevertheless, we managed and neither of us burned, despite strong sunlight and daytime temperature in the low to mid 30s.

The Premium bar area served Tapas, freshly prepared, during the lunch / afternoon period. Thank goodness, because the main buffet restaurants were, to us, no better than the standard of some of the worst works’ canteens that we have encountered. There was an a la carte restaurant, but this only had a choice of 4 starters, 4 main courses and 4 desserts. Whilst we had a few good meals there (unfortunately the quality was not consistent, even here) we could not possibly eat there every night, despite our Premium entitlement allowing us to do so.

In the evenings we tended to take a G n T or a cava (or two) outside the main bar, in the early evening, and then have a look at the "entertainment" in the Boulevard / Galeon bar area of the resort. Once again the entertainment was not really to our taste or expectations.

We tended to spend the evenings, talking to various people we had met in the Privilege area. Indeed, we met some very interesting and entertaining people, most of whom shared similar interests. Thank you to all who made our holiday.

2018 Sept Lanzarote - We Drank

The resort was well located and there were bars, shops and restaurants and two beaches within easy reach. Fortunately, these were all fairly low-key, so there were neither masses of people nor great deals of noise!

Prices were fairly reasonable in the shops - and the restaurants varied in price, from inexpensive pizza places to full menu, moderate to higher priced establishments. It is only worth mentioning two - Pablo's which, to us , seemed to display a total inability to cook (except for the starter) and La Bohemia, for their fairly diverse, well priced and excellent food (need to book or go early).

There were a few negatives about the food and entertainment at our resort but, nevertheless, we enjoyed our break - and the people that we met! The staff at the resort worked hard and, mostly, interacted well with the guests and seemed intent on providing excellent service.

Our taxi transfer back to the airport was excellent, on time and with a helpful driver. Our flight back was excellent and our arrival at Gatwick was enhanced by a speedy transit through immigration, speedy bag delivery and non-stop exit through customs.

Our eldest son was soon whisking us away from the airport (at about 1:50 am) and back to his home for a bed for the night, followed by real bacon at breakfast, before allowing us to drive home - unfortunately he didn't clean our car!
